| Looks nice; I think the hands and boots could be colored white and perhaps the whole suit could be too because that black would not blend in with the snow that well... |

I'm not sure. I've seen shots of military men wearing black boots with winter camo/garb before. Heck, these guys are wearing full on white except for the boots, but their boots are snow covered. - Spoiler:
Granted, that's from an artist and they're on skis... but still I believe it's authentic. I do suggest a bit of the top of the boots be a bit snow covered, though. A Rebel with a trench coat would be pretty awesome too. |

| What did you use for the dirt effect? Photoshop? Any specific brushes? Really cool looking man. |

| Yes, Photoshop. GIMP doesn't work as well with my method.
step 1: start with a clean white base
step 2: duplicate the layer twice, so there are 3.
step 3: the middle layer is turned gray by using brightness contrast, or hue/sat (leaving hue and sat the same, but there's a lightness setting on the hue/sat screen as well, might need to desaturate to keep it from becoming too bluish or yellowish when increasing contrast slightly)
step 4: use the eraser tool at about 30% transparency or opacity, i don't remember which term is used, just so only 30% of the texture is erased. use one of the brushes that looks like a paint brush, not a circle or blended circle, and one that isn't too dense. erase most of the top two layers. the space that is erased lets the actual paint scheme show through, the space that is left behind is where the armor is scratched. the white layer is lighter scratches just in the colored parts of the armor that show the base white underneath. the gray layer is deeper scratches into the armor itself. there isn't actually any dirt, just scratching, like the trooper scrubs it clean but doesn't repaint it.
step 5: in a new (4th) layer below the 2 erased layers, make the color patterns. could be any number of layers though. |
