Subject: Star Wars Battlefront Renegade Squadron Mod 7/8/2013, 8:30 pm
Credits as of now: Tirpider for his excellent assistance in the creation and kit bashing of the rebel models. Pandemic for their origin models from where I did my edits/complete makeovers. TBA TBA TBA TBA Glitch and Nedarb 7 who help set me on the modding path. Well me of course lol. for going through with this mod and doing the majority of skins and skin edits. Rebellion Studios for the psp game which I have.
The Renegade Squadron Add-on is a mod aimed to include gameplay and units from the psp version of the game. Because this is a mod for the PC version of Battlefront 2, the overall texture quality is better and some elements from the psp version will be improved upon. Currently its only me working it with some aid from various experienced modders. As far as maps go, it wont include any new ones. It will be just an era mode with custom units for both imperials and rebels alike. Suggestions are welcome, however there are some things from the psp version that can't be re-created for Battlefront 2. Thankfully Renegade squadron was more of a Battlefront 2.5 with customization, so a lot of the body types and weapons wont need new models. And what's a wip topic without screenshots!

Ill have to retake some of these screen shots, but I think you get the general idea of what im doing. It will be a GCW. Models are done by tirpider with skin work done myself. mod and in time will include some pretty neat features. Suggestions for color schemes are welcome, the blue/gold varient is more of a place holder.

I love the customization to! its really to bad you cant do it in battlefront 2, but im going to try my best to give them appropriate weapon set ups for each unit. I could really use the opinion of someone like yourself commander ice for class set ups, just wait till I show you some of the newer weapon models!
Maybe I should get my list out.....looking....

Thank you! I haven't posted this on gametoast because they require it to be 50 percent done which this isn't quite yet.
in the meantime though this is what I have set up for classes. 7 classes, 3 rebel commando body types, 3 rebel vanguard body types and one wookie body type(one wookie because 3 wookies would be too much probably. you can only rip the arm sockets out of a storm trooper for so long)

bothan (vangaurd body type):
Human (Rebel Commando body type):
Newley Updated skins. The Vanguard body type should get more updates, however the commando body type seems fine the way it is now. I tried a red color scheme and it didnt work out too well, especially because the empire side is already using the red shock trooper corps theme.
Preview of what the imperial color scheme.

Mon calalimari Medic with carbonite freezing gun weapon(freezing and chargeable code being worked on.)
Vanguard with pretty much vanilla setup with the mines being switched out for cluster grenades.
Mr sullustan with his handy shot gun.
All now using updated skins. go ahead and compare from the screen from the first post.

looking fantastic Twinkey, the Mon Calamari guy is awesome.
There's something I notice A LOT in mods, and that is that modders forget the .tga.option files. What's the purpose? Well, player model skins get blurred when they don't have them, such as the unofficial patch v1.3 sides (or was that 1.2?) clone commander (as a note the tga.option needs to be set up properly too but that's not a problem. Take the BF1 sides as an example, they all have tga.options but they are blurred). In order to fix this you can simply copy a stock BF2 player model's .tga.option, lets say rep_in_ep3trooper.tga.option, copy and rename to your player models texture name, place in your side's msh folder.
Now, I don't know if they are blurry when you play the game but what I see from the picture they are blurred. Otherwise looking great, your modding skills are improving greatly

You could always make the skins load randomly upon on each map load, or make the skins change during each map, or each spawn.

Im planning to decrease the units you select from and give specific units to certain maps. I love that idea about randomizing Arc, the only problem is that units with specific equipment will have specific add on meshes. Due to my in-experience, its not something I think is a goal at the moment, especially since each model will get certain add on meshes based on their equipment. (For example a unit with the health drop will have the medical back pack, so I cant randomize the model because then it would be out of place if it was randomized with a human model that has a different add don on mesh meant for other equipment.)
Edit: Update Video
Tri-Shot model and working odf file.

I'd love to help if you need any, slowly getting back into modding and always wanted to do something based on one of the PSP games.

I probably will, im nearing finishing the basic and intermediate stuff. I could use help in effects and someone who knows there way with weapon odf's. If your familiar with/have those games, that is the kind of person I need for suggestions and beta testing. I could also use a talent who is familiar with basic hex editing for pretty much basic add on meshes like back packs and bits of armor. (both offers on the table for those interested)
I know you working on that awesome Tides of war mod, If you would like in the near future when these models are fixed up a bit more for BF2, I see no reason why not to hook you up with some of them.

Having those models would be a HUGE help. I'm pretty good with weapon odfs stuff so I could definitely help you there. Are you going to be creating new maps for this mod?

It's something that really hasn't come to mind. I can't really make maps, really isn't my field. But possibly in the future if I find a mapper who is interested, I see why not. Especially since I can provide my own screen shots for reference. A lot of the psp maps where re-worked pandemic ones, and a lot of the pandemic assests where present in several maps like boz pity.

Yes, that's what I like about it, we'd have many of the assets at our disposal. I might try my hand at making a map or two if you give me some good reference pics, it isn't my specialty but it wouldn't hurt to try at least.

I would prefer to offer you with something more reasonable and in your line of work.(So it would be easier on your part.) Actually maybe you can give me a list of things you specialize in.

Mostly sides tbh, I'm a decent skinner but mostly do odf work, can't model yet but a decent mapper too, can do some scripting definitely if needed, not a pro but have done enough to know the basics.

I can use help on an orbital strike type weapon. Renegade squadron as im sure you know has something of a sniper rifle type model that shot a mark from where an orbital strike would be unleashed. Since I am a little occupied with making new laser effects and textures atm, do you think you can handle making this weapon?

Yep, I've experimented with an orbital strike before in one of my W.I.P maps, there is one in the BF1 assets so I think I can work on one, it might not be for a couple of weeks because I'm leaving for vacation in a few days and have a pretty packed schedule before then.
