Hi, thought I would start a topic on Blitzkrieg modding. This has to be one of the easiest games to mod. Almost all modding tools come with the game itself. Rar is good for extracting the unit skins, models, sound, map and scripts.

NOTES
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- When installing Blitzkrieg, you have to change your directory to here: C:\Blitzkrieg
This is so you can run the map editor and resource editor. If you install it in its default path, you wont be able to run the map editor and resource editor. For some reason Blitzkrieg doesnt like spaces like the Program Files (folder) has.

- Winrar is perfect for extracting the game contents.

MAP EDITOR - Resource Editor locations

Both editors can be found here C:\Blitzkrieg\Run

data folder

This is where all the magic happens: C:\Blitzkrieg\Run\data

In the data folder, the main files your will be getting the assets from are data.PAK and textures.PAK

And you're talking about Blitzkrieg 1, right? I was eventually planning on getting Blitzkrieg 2 as well since we have the Blitzkrieg Anthology. Modding it is one of my interests, definitely.

Open up the data.pak and drag and drop the units, squads, and weapons folder.
Drag and drop the Objects.xml file too.
The Scenarios folder is optional.

Will add in a allied tank.

Go to the units folder and go inside here: C:\Blitzkrieg\Run\data\units\technics\allies\Tanks


Copy and paste any unit you want anywhere. I'll copy the M4A1_General_Sherman_USA and rename to m4a1_sherman_polish.
The green circle is stock unit
The red circle is custom unit
The blue circle is extra custom units



Now go back to: C:\Blitzkrieg\Run\data
Open up the textures.pak


Find the units skin folder. My is (M4A1_General_Sherman_USA) so I go here: C:\Blitzkrieg\Run\data\units\technics\allies\Tanks\M4A1_General_Sherman_USA

Drag and drop the 1_h and 2_h dds files into your custom units folder (m4a1_sherman_polish)

If your running on low settings, drag and drop 1_l, 2_l, 1_c, and 2_c

Now go inside your new units folder (m4a1_sherman_polish)
Use your editing program to edit your skin.

NOTE

GIMP dds plug-in: http://code.google.com/p/gimp-dds/

When ready to saving in dds, this ussally pops up. I circled the options that matter.

NOTE: Some of these options appear different on updated plug-ins.

Heres my custom skin of a polish sherman.


Go to: C:\Blitzkrieg\Run\data
Open the Object.xml file inside a notepad editor.

Either at the top or bottom add this in

<item>
<name>m4a1_sherman_polish</name>
<type>mesh</type>
<game_type>unit</game_type>
<path>units\Technics\Allies\Tanks\m4a1_sherman_polish</path>
</item>

I added my unit at the bottom


Green circle custom unit
Blue brackets extra custom units

Go to your custom units folder: C:\Blitzkrieg\Run\data\units\technics\allies\Tanks\m4a1_sherman_polish
Open the icon.tga file in your editing program and edit your icon.


Here my custom icon.


This icon is used in the map editor to choose a unit when using the icon option to select units.

In the green circle is the discription of your unit.
Hope you know your history LOL! Type something about your unit.

In the blue circle is the name of your unit.
I put Polish M4A1 Sherman. So when you choose your unit ingame it will say
Polish M4A1 Sherman on the units ID box.

And in the red circle is the attributes of your unit.
Hitpoints, speed, rotation speed, armor-front-back-sides-top-botton, prim weapon, 2nddary weapon, crew #, effects of death, track life line, etc.

Again all these can be edited with a notepad editor.



1_h is summer skin high settings
1a_h is african skin high settings
1w_h is winter skin high settings

2_h is summer dead skin high settings
2a_h is african dead skin high settings
2w_h is winter dead skin high settings

So and so for 1_l, 2_l 1_c, 2_c low settings
