I have a slight dilemma here. I'm not sure whether to keep the names basic or give them their actual names.

I feel that using the Basic Names fits BF2 better as the other sides don't have the actual names either, but at the same time the actual names give the side a bit more authenticity. Maybe I should just give real names to the weapons and not the droids, considering that they are all B1's. What do you guys think?

That E-7 Blaster Rifle, I'd call it, "XE-7", in-case it's experimental.

Authentic names for the weapons are preferred by many people, well...at least I as a player would love to see the designations.

As for classes, I'd go ahead and give them the authentic names too. We all know they're B1's, but again, authenticity helps with freshness.

Is this a regular side mod? As you know localization does not work for regular side mods (at least I think they don't)

No its not a regular side mod, well not intended to be...

EDIT: The tutorial I had adds a new era. I need to replace a side completely and be able to change weapon and unit names.

I need to figure out how to edit the side names and have it appear on stock maps. I'm thinking that the mission.lvl and ingame.lvl need to be changed a bit. Can someone help me out please?

Edit: Gahh, it just extracts LUB files. (compiled lua files) I have no idea how to read them or edit them.

Opened one up with notepad got a bunch of this.

Maybe turning it into a small sides mod would be more beneficial? I am totally fine with backing up files and replacing them. But I think it would look more attractive if people didn't have to replace sensitive files to battlefront.
I am no modder though, so I have no idea if making it a sides mod is more trouble then preparing game files.

As for the unit names, I think making them accurate would be better. Looking very promising so far.

It would be easier to just do a simple side mod. (If that's the case I'm pretty much done) The only way I can replace the weapon and unit names would be to replace the core files.

You do make a good point. Not many people would want to replace important files like these. (It would disable online play for the CW era unless other people had the same mod)

But if I were to include replacement core files they don't have to use them. I still have plenty of time to decide on this though. Thanks for the input. Smile

Create an era mod, but for the era use ***c_con.lua as the lua script name, it will replace the stock scripts with your custom one, and will make for an easy download, localizing will also be easy, just use the editlocalize.bat in your new project, installation would be a breeze, just have to add one folder to addon. PM me for more details, I've done this before.
