Well, from the beginning I will say it is not easy but not impossible. The set of animations of a walker is composed of fragments of an entire animation. Let me explain: if you have a walker from a single pair of legs you should think of human walking, or in that of a biped animal, so, thinking the movement would make the legs you should have this set of animations:

(1) idle_to_leftfoot (That is, standing, start walking with left leg)

(2) idle_to_rightfoot (That is, standing, start walking with lright leg)

(3) rightfoot_to_leftfoot

(4) leftfoot_to_rightfoot (This is the walk, these two are repeated one after the other while moving.)

(5) leftfoot_to_idle (This is to stop giving a final step with the left leg)

(6) rightfoot_to_idle(This is to stop giving a final step with the right leg)

(7) turnl (turn to the left hand, on the same place)

(8) turnr (turn to the right hand, on the same place)

(9) death01 (death animation, example: fall down)

Taking into account the numbers that I have for each animation sequence, stand, walk four steps and stop means like this:

1 - 4 - 3 - 4 - 3 - 5 (this secuence is beggining with the left leg)

or this:

2 - 3 - 4 - 3 - 4 - 6 (this is beggining with the right leg)

So, you need make one scene in xsi for each one (only bones) other for the basepose (only bones) and one for the model with bones and collisions. I make an tutorial but it is in spanish.

this is:

walk_leftfoot_righfoot (caminar pie izquierdo luego derecho)
walk_rightfoot_leftfoot (caminar pie derecho luego izquierdo)

Spoiler:

Suerte
Espero les ayude.

I think you can make anims and export it has "idle" and it will play looping ingame like jabba.

Code:
[Properties]

GeometryName    =  "tat3_bldg_jabba"
AnimationName  =  "tat3_bldg_jabba"
Animation      =  "idle"
Animation      =  "grab"

SoundProperty = "jabba_amb"

AnimationTrigger    =  "grab hp_hotspot 3.0"

if you like, you can ignore the second anim line and the trigger to get it playing ever. So you need make the anim in xsi that it can be seeing has loop animation. I will try make a tutorial for this.

May be you need see the "torture droid" animated prop odf and anims files.

Code:

ClassLabel          = "animatedprop"
GeometryName    = "name_of_your_model.msh"

[Properties]

GeometryName    =  "name_of_your_model"
AnimationName  =  "animation_name_that_you_munge_previusly"
Animation      =  "idle"

FoleyFx  =  "metal_foley"

This is the template .odf for your animated prop. The animation in xsi will be exported has "idle" and it will work looping, it mean that your anim should finish in the same point when it begin, so you can have 40 frames (for example, you can have + or -)and for the first step before animate bones you need fix with the "K" key all traslations or rotations for all bones in the frame 1 and the frame 40 to the same position for these frames. After you have the first and the last frame fixed for ALL bones to animate you can traslate/rotate and set the animation point with the "K" key in the frames from 2 to 39. Only following this metod you can get looping anims. Other stuff, your model NEED collisions primitives.

Hope help you.

You wellcome!

I'm thinking about make some tutorials for XSI-SWBF, so i have some topics, here is the list:

XSI BASIC: XSI interface, basic modeling, make objects from primitives (geometrical objects), apply textures, objects formats to import and export, export models to swbf.

XSI MEDIUM: Making models with hardpoints (to atach effects and others), static turrets, vehicles with turrets (hover and flyer), making units and enveloping, export to swbf.

XSI JUNIOR: Making animations for doors and animated props, flyer animations (takeoff), export to swbf.

XSI ADVANCED: Making walkers (complete tutorial), making capital ships and others bigs props and buildings. export to swbf.

It is all that we need to modeling in xsi to swbf.

So, if you has considerated that here is a topic that is not needed, please post your opinion. I will make those tutorials after the next week.

EDIT:

Additive to this list I can explain how get your models and animations ingame.

http://www.moddb.com/downloads/autodesk-softimage-mod-tool-75

But the pandemic exporter won't work with the mod tool versions, but you can always use Repsharpshooter's MshEx, or someone with the correct version for the pandemic exporter can export your models for you.
